Splinterlands is a collectible fantasy card game where each player assembles a squad for battles in a short amount of time. Created back in 2018 on the Hive blockchain with the original name Steem Monsters, further renamed to Splinterlands. In concept, the game is more similar to Dota Auto Chess and Hearthstone Battlegrounds than to Gods Unchained – the battles in the game are automatic, the very thing is an auto-battler.
How to start playing?
Go to the site (refka Cryptogamer). Register and bind all sorts of wallets for convenient interaction. For a full game will need to buy a book SUMMONER’S SPELLBOOK, which provides access to earnings in the game itself. It costs only $10, which will pay for itself in a week.
Ways to pay for Summoner’s Spellbook
With the book you can complete daily quests, get seasonal rewards and in-game tokens. At the very beginning of the game, starter cards are available that you cannot trade or sell, but you can use in battles.

Cards with better characteristics can be purchased on the marketplace. If you can’t afford them, you can rent them for pennies in the “CARD RENTALS” tab.
There are three types of tokens in the game – Credits, DEC and SPS.
Credits is a “donate” currency that is used to purchase items in the store. Can be purchased with cryptocurrency. Cannot be withdrawn.
DEC (DARK ENERGY CRYSTALS) – the most important token in the game. It is used in the same way as Credits, but is withdrawn from the game. It can be obtained by winning battles.
SPS is a management token that is issued to all holders of any assets in the Splinterlands ecosystem. You can read more about it in the official documents here.
Battle Options
When a battle is found – you will see a pop-up window that shows the rules of the battle and the opponent.
Let’s take a look at some of them:
Mana determines the available number of points to summon monsters in battle. The total mana of your monsters and summoner must not exceed this amount.
Available summoners are the classes of summoners you can choose from.
The combat rules determine what options and restrictions apply to this combat.
In this case, the combat parameters are as follows:
Monsters with a long-range attack can attack from the first position.
We have 21 mana available for summoning monsters.
We can only choose summoners from the fire, water, earth, death and dragon classes.
There are two types of cards in the game, they are Summoners and Monsters:
Summoners are the card that determines the class of the future squad. Some summoners give additional characteristics to monsters.
Monsters are cards that are used directly in battle.
Splinterlands Art
Each monster has its own characteristics: mana, attack, armor, lives, speed, and ability.
Attack – The damage a monster will do is divided into melee, magic, and ranged attacks:
Attack types in Splinterlands
Monsters with a Near attack only deal damage from the first position, unless otherwise stated in the rules or abilities.
Monsters with Ranged attacks only deal damage from ranged positions, unless otherwise stated in the rules or abilities.
Monsters with Magic Attack deal damage from any position.
Armor acts as a shield against melee and ranged attacks. However, a magic attack strikes lives through the armor.
Lives are a basic characteristic. As long as they are present, the monster functions.
Speed determines the order in which monsters attack. It is also responsible for evasion. The greater the speed, the greater the chance that a monster with less speed will miss.
Abilities are special skills that are used during combat.
Map Level
Every card in Splinterlands has a level (point 3). As a monster’s level increases, its characteristics increase. You can see the characteristics of monsters in the “STATS” tab (item 1). To get a monster of a higher level, you need to combine several cards of level 1 (item 2).
We would like to add that monsters with a higher level have a higher attack priority. A level 2 monster will always attack before a level 1 monster.
